Personal Statement Essay Sample

Since I was young, I always dreamt of becoming a doctor. It is for this reason that I pursued a bachelor’s degree in Medicine at the University Hospital of Martinique. As an undergraduate, I took the internship program at Erasmus Hospital in the Emergency Department, where I participated in performing physical examinations, writing progress notes, assisting in chest tube insertion, performing first aid, clinical toxicology, and aterial puncture. After graduating in 2008, I took the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) in which I obtained passes in both steps. I have also undergone different trainings such as the shipment of hazardous materials, biological safety, ACLS, BLS, PALS, among others. Since 2012, I have been participating in the monthly NCRP seminars that enable the professionals to gain insights on emerging medical knowledge.

Besides the internship program, I have obtained experience from different working environs. I worked as a physician at the Son Light Missions in order to obtain my medical licence. After graduating, I took a position of a general practitioner at St Elizabeth Medical Center, Martinique. The two positions helped me practice most of the knowledge i had attained on treatment and diagnosis during my study. In 2010, I started working for the Cardiologists Associates of Florida as a chart reviewer. I gain expertise in keeping accurate records while increasing my knowledge of different diagnosis and diseases. In 2012, I became the clinical research coordinator at the Division of Clinical Pharmacology in the University of Florida. My major areas of focus were renal impairment, hepatic impairment, and High Blood Pressure.  I am currently working in the Division of Rheumatology as a senior clinical research coordinator, where I have gained more exposure in tissue diseases.

The education and the working experience that I have had have geared me towards the attainment of my career objectives. The education that i have attained has equipped me with the relevant information on available treatment options and the gap of needs in the field of medicine. The experience, on the other hand, has aroused a keen interest in the field of clinical research. As a result, I target at being prepared for the evolving field of clinical research, which is experiencing changes due to the emerging knowledge in diverse fields. There is emergence of new diagnosis and treatment options, which may aid in the improvement of the health quality. I also aim at being a leader in translational and clinical research. Such a position would enable me to take a more active role in determining the needs that should be addressed in medicine and health.

Pursuing the Maters program in clinical research would equip me with the required skills and qualifications for taking a leadership role in research work, thus attainment of my career goal. The program would enable me to recognize important clinical queries, develop research protocol, conduct clinical and translational investigations, and analyze and publish results. Although my GPA is 2.7, I believe that my experience has equipped me with adequate knowledge and skills that would compensate for the lack of attainment of the required 3.0. Moreover, the trainings that I have attended have helped me understand some of the fields that I failed during my undergraduate level. Nonetheless, I will put more effort in my studies to ensure that I optimize the available resources in the university.
